The Australian Shepherd: The Breed’s History
The Australian Shepherd is a versatile herding breed, brought to America by Basque Shepherds, who brought their dogs over with them from Australia. This is where the name “Australian” comes from, though the breed itself was created solely in the United States, and not in Australia at all!
The breed is a do-it-all dog, they were bred to be amazing, hard-working ranch dogs, but also great family dogs, performance dogs, scent dogs, obedience, agility etc.
You name it, an Aussie somewhere has done it!
